Upcoming State Competition Q & A

Welcome James Youth Wrestling Parents. Dear parents of the Youth Wrestling James Gang Club. There are two things I would like to bring up. This email is oriented more for the new parents. The number one goal of the club is to introduce youth to the sport of wrestling in a fun and friendly environment. Our coaching staff includes coaches that have coached numerous regional, conference and state champions from the youngest wrestling level to the HS level. The coaching staff begins with teaching our youngest wrestlers the basics of the sport and continues to help the wrestler advance his/her skills through the years. The goal is to teach the kids at all skill levels and have them participate in meets to gain confidence and ability throughout their wrestling careers. Each year the James Gang Youth Club participates in many local youth tournaments, again with the goal to teach the kids the sport of wrestling and allow the kids to improve their skills. The Team is open to anyone wrestler who wants to try out, please talk to your coach about how your kid lines up with the team and if wrestling off is a good ideal or not. State Competition Info. The great thing about wrestling unlike other sports is that you do not have to be on the team to participate. You can still go to state individually. We have a large amount of kids that go to Rochester and compete with all the kids in Minnesota “at their grade level”. This is for any kid who wants to do it. We had about a dozen participate last year and many of the kids placed. The dates for the State event are March 6,7,8. The Coaches will be coaching at this event. I would like to explain the steps involved in order to make this happen. Each weekend there is a youth tournament nearby... Owatonna, New Prague and many other schools host these events. The tournament has to be a “STATE QUALIFIER” and it will tell you that when you look them up on the Guillotine website (great website that lists open youth wrestling tournaments).Please cut and paste this into your browser. http://theguillotine.com/wp/open-tournament-calendar/ Look under “youth” click on calendar and you will see the next MN Sate youth tournament. Forest Lake Wrestling Folkstyle Tournament<http://theguillotine.com/wp/forest-lake-wrestling-folkstyle-tournament/> - MN/USA State Qualifier Click on that, see the times and make it to that tournament. If they are close by, a coach will usually go but not always. Just ask. If your child places 1st or 2nd at any one of those “state qualifiers” they are qualified for State tournament that is held March 6,7,8. They can go to as many tournaments as they wish to qualify. If you go to 3 of them and get 3rd three times you qualified. See attachment that helps explain it.
